Skill Gain
Skill gain is vastly increased on InsaneUO. All skills will gain much faster and also more easily overall than on OSI. If crafting or casting you will gain on every attempt provided you don’t have 100% chance of success. For skills such as Swordsmanship they will gain on every swing. This means no matter your template you will be able to get up and running within a matter of hours, not weeks! Due to the fast skill gain there are no training areas. You simply need to go out into the world and play.
"Free" Skills
InsaneUO has a list of “free skills”. These are the skills that are either generally considered useless by most players or that we don’t feel should be a whole template on their own. These skills will not count towards the 720 skill cap so you can raise as many of these as you like. Always wanted a tamer bard that can also do treasure maps? Perhaps a fishing sampire? Now you can!
- Alchemy
- ArmsLore
- Begging
- Camping
- Cartography
- Cooking
- DetectHidden
- Fishing
- Forensics
- Herding
- Hiding
- Inscribe
- ItemID
- Lockpicking
- Lumberjacking
- Mining
- Musicianship
- RemoveTrap
- Snooping
- TasteID
- Tracking
Alchemy
- Alchemy can go to 120 either by purchasing a “Pick A Scroll” from the Insanity Tokens Vendor or by completing Alchemy BODs
- Alchemy is a free skill on InsaneUO meaning it doesn’t count towards your 720 skill cap
Animal Lore
The animal lore gump has had a major overhaul. No more do you need to scroll through multiple pages to see all your pet’s stats, but instead you can easily see everything on one window.
The training windows have also been updated to match this new look, along with the stable gumps. To add to this, stable gumps will remain open when retrieving a pet, making it easier to retrieve multiple pets.
Even if you don’t have the Animal Lore skill, you can single click any shrunk pets and choose “Lore & Knowledge” to view a pet’s stats. When viewed this way you can access multiple lore screens at once, allowing for easy comparisons. Stuck trying to decide which chimera to buy? Now you can compare the stats side by side to help make your decision.
Archery

Blacksmithy
- Blacksmithy can gain from any item that isn’t at 100% success chance, meaning you can gain skill for longer on lower cost items
- Blacksmithy BODs can be banked for full points
- Blacksmithy has gained new recipes for the Doom Upgrade artifacts
Bowcraft and Fletching
Skill Cap
Bowcraft and Fletching has a skill cap of 120 on InsaneUO. The power scrolls can be earned via turning in Fletching BoDs or through the “Pick A Scroll” deed available on the Insane Vendor in Luna.
Recipes
The Heartwood recipes have had an update to make the magic and rare crafted bows more desirable. InsaneUO also offers a second way to get these! You can continue to complete the Heartwood quests for a low chance of getting the recipe you want, or you can purchase “The Fletcher Book of Knowledge”. The recipes have not changed the materials required but you now get an improved end product.
The Fletcher Book of Knowledge
The idea behind this system is to allow a skilled crafter to grow their knowledge by discovering recipes after mastering the previous one. Once purchased from the BOD system for 5000 points, double click the book to open it and see the requirements. Note: The book will bind to the first character to open it. Do not open it with any character other than the intended fletcher. The crafter will complete tasks to craft specific items then submit them for a chance to learn the next recipe in the book. A skilled Fletcher can increase their chances of learning a recipe by having the following:
- Fletching Achievements (can be checked via [myachievements command)
- Novice Fletcher (craft 100 items) = 8% base chance
- Adept Fletcher (craft 1,000 items) = 40% base chance
- Legendary Fletcher (craft 10,000 items) = 80% base chance
- Dexterity (needed to learn the fine details of craftsmanship)
- For every 10 dex above 100, you receive a 1% bonus (so at 150, you’d have a 5% bonus)
- Fletching Skill / Imbuing Skill
- For normal recipes, only Fletching skill matters and gives 0% at 100, 10% at 120
- For rare recipes, Fletching skill gives 0% at 100, 5% at 120 and Imbuing skill gives 0% at 100 and 5% at 120.
- Crafting exceptional items for the recipes will provide a 5-10% bonus
As an example, a character with the Adept Fletcher achievement, 150 dex, 120 Fletching and 120 Imbuing will have a 55% chance of learning all the recipes. A character with the Novice Fletcher with 100 dex, 100 Fletching and 100 Imbuing will have only an 8% chance of learning the recipe. A character with the Legendary Fletcher achievement, 150 dex, 120 Fletching and 120 Imbuing will have 95% chance of learning the recipes.
The book gives you the instructions on how it works, as well as naming who the book belongs to. You can change pages on the bottom left to view all recipes. Recipes must be learned in order and the required items must be in your backpack.
Each page shows the final item under “Properties” and what is required to unlock it under the “Objectives” heading. The green gem at the bottom of a page indicates that is the current recipe you’re attempting to learn, red shows you can’t attempt that yet. Craft the required items and press the green gem to attempt to learn the recipe. You will get text above your character saying if you were successful or not. If you fail you will receive a small amount of your materials back.
Once a recipe has been learnt the page will have a red bookmark against it.
Carpentry
- Carpentry can reach 120 on InsaneUO. Either purchase a scroll from the “Insanity Tokens Vendor” or choose one as a BOD reward

Item Identification
Item ID counts as a ‘free skill’ on InsaneUO, meaning it won’t count towards the 720 skill cap. It has also been tweaked slightly; by using it on an item, looted or crafted, it will display a message to tell you the imbue weight of the item.
Above your character it will give the standard Item ID message with a rough value and a vague description of its strength.
In your system messages at the bottom of your screen it will show you the Imbuing Weight, Loot Weight and True Weight. The True Weight is how the magic rarity of loot is calculated (Lesser Magic, Magic etc).

Mining
As there is no extra risk to mining in Felucca here without PvP, every facet gets the double resource bonus. If you want to mine in Ilshenar feel free; each swing of your pick will earn you two ore instead of one.
Bonus resources have also been normalised across facets. You no longer need to mine in Termur in order to gather crystalline blackrock. At the appropriate skill levels you will have a chance to dig this up no matter where you’re mining.
Mining can go to 120 using the “Pick a Scroll” deed available from the Insanity Token vendor. You can also combine this with the +5 mining gloves from BoD rewards for a total of 125 mining. Players above GM will gain increased smelting success rate on higher level ores and will also gain an improved rate for digging up bonus resources.
Musicianship
- Musicianship is a free skill, meaning it doesn’t count towards the skill cap. Now any of your characters can play melodic music
- Due to being a free skill, +music no longer drops on rings and bracelets
Mysticism
+Mysticism can now be found on looted rings and bracelets

Poisoning

Spellweaving
- All arcane circles will give the max level focus with only one spellweaver. No more gathering a group just to cast your focus!
- There is one located at Felucca Britain Bank
- Any placed in your home will also work
- +Spellweaving can now drop on rings and bracelets
Tailoring
- You can gain on any item that doesn’t give 100% success rate, making it rare easier to raise your skill on lower cost items.
- Tailoring BODs can be banked for full points
- Tailoring has gained some new recipes for some of the Doom Upgrades
Taste ID
Taste ID is a free skill meaning it won’t count towards your skill cap as many players consider it useless. However on InsaneUO it now has a use! When paired with Poisoning, a character with TasteID can now gain poison immunity. See the table in the Poisoning skill section which shows the level of immunity that can be gained.
