Quickstart Guide

One of the first encounters when joining InsaneUO may be a message from a guild called 'Noob Inc' telling you about their wonderful tamer starter packs for sale. The Nooblets have also created a great mini-guide to getting started on InsaneUO.

Mythic Token

Your first order of business should be registering your account to get a FREE Mythic Token.

• You can get 1 free token per account. Other tokens can be purchased in UOStore.
• Mythic Tokens allow you to set 5 skills to 90 and to set your stats.
• Mythic Tokens can NOT be used once you have 200 skill points.

When using the Mythic Token, it is most efficient to pick skills that requires many resources like crafting or require many targets and have a delay between usage like taming and provocation.

Free Skills

Insane UO has a list of “free skills”. These are the skills that are either generally considered useless by most players or that we don’t feel should be a whole template on their own. These skills will not count towards the 720 skill cap so you can raise as many of these as you like. Have you always wanted a tamer bard that can also do treasure maps? Perhaps a fishing sampire? Now you can!

Starter Pack

You can buy a tamer starter pack from the Nooblet vendor house which can be found immediately west of Luna. The Nooblet vendor is easy to locate but if you have issues, the coordinates are 935 514 -88 in Malas.

The starter packs can be found on the vendor near the house steps named. The vendor NPC is named "A Tale Of A Nooblet".

This is a player stocked vendor. If the vendor is sold out, don't despair! Ask on discord for a tamer starter pack and someone will likely help you out!

Insane Asylum aka the original Rune Library

Traveling is a large part of Ultima Online. IUO created a rune library immediately east of Luna. There are runes and teleportation devices at this library to major points of interests like city banks and dungeon entrances. There are also vendor NPCs and vendor stones that sell many useful items! You can even open your bank at this rune library.

On the steps of the rune library, you can find vendors that sell a variety of items useful to all players. Visit the rune library and check out what each of the vendors sell and what currency they take.

The white vendor stone can be double clicked to access items it sells to. If you don't see the white vendor stone, walk on the steps so that the contents of the rune library load.

Some useful items for new players available here are:

• Full magery spellbooks
• Full necromancy/necromancer spellbooks
• Bags of sending
• Translocation powder
• and more!

Inside the rune library on the first floor, you'll find:

• Pentagrams to cast Arcane Circle on
• A table that will let you exchange imbuing ingredients (Magical Residue, Enchanted Essence, Relic Fragments)
• Crystal Portal - teleports you to city banks - double click for instructions
• Corrupted Crystal Portal - teleports you to dungeon entrances - double click for instructions
• Moonstone Crystal - double click for destinations
• Serpent's Jawbone - double click for destinations
• Runebooks to major points of interest

Inside the rune library on the second floor, you'll find:

• House addons used for crafting including a soul forge
• Lockpicking chest(in the Southwest corner) and lock picks to help you quickly reach 100 Lockpicking which is a free skill
• Repair bench - this can repair items with gold. Using gold to repair will not reduce the items max durability
• Green sparkles teleporter to see pre-built houses that are available for purchase with gold

Community Rune Library

The Community Rune Library was built by Dennis the Librarian! It has runes to nearly everywhere you can imagine. It also has many useful items such as a repair bench, dye tubs, remove trap training boxes and teleportation devices.

Some example rune locations that you can find:

• Specific mobs
• Animals that can be tamed
• Treasure map locations
• Buildings in each city
• Quests
• and more!

Luna

Gates - In addition to the public moongate, you will find gates to other points of interest. Hover the gate to to see where it will take you!

Pet Vendor Stone – Located to the north of the Luna moongate, at the entrance to the stable, there are two stones of interest to tamers. One allows you to buy pet bonding deeds to avoid waiting for bonding to complete and pet leashes so you can shrink your tames which allows for ease of transport and switching pets to match your enemies. The other stone will anyone to resurrect their pet without needing veterinary.

Corpse Summoner – North West of the Pet Vendor is a Corpse Summoner. If you die and can’t get to your body, he can recall it to you for a fee. You can then access the body to get your items back. Beware, this is still subject to the normal decay timer and uninsured items may be looted by the enemy you are fighting!

Monthly Dye Tubs – If you head into the center of Luna, just south of the bank are public dye tubs of all kinds to use. At the west end of these are the monthly dye tubs which will change to different specific hues each month. These special tubs can dye almost any item and are not limited to only cloth, leather or metal.

Currencies

There are 4 main types of currencies:

• Gold - earned by killing mobs, doing treasure maps, rewards at the end of boss fights
  • Gold piles are NOT visible in your bank
  • Checks can not be made. You can specify gold amounts in the trade window
  • To withdraw 5000 gold coins from your bank, type withdraw 5000. Any amount will work as long as you can carry it and have the gold in your bank
  • You do not need to have gold in your pack to purchase from vendors
• Sovereign(aka sov) - earned by completing achievements. Type [myachievements for a list. You also earn 1 sov for every 30 minutes of logged in time
  • Can be used in the UOStore. While in your house, type [store
  • Can be converted to scrolls and traded. Use the blue gem button on [wallet
• Insanity tokens - are rewards for challenging content. They can be obtained from treasure maps, bosses, events and sometimes login gifts. They are used at the Insanity Token Vendor.
  • Can be spent at vendor(s) at the rune library [rl
• Clean up Britannia(aka CUB) points - earned by placing items in trash such as virtue and paragon artifacts
  • Can use any trash container to earn these points
  • Single click the container and choose "Appraise for Cleanup" to find out how many points an item is worth
  • Spend points at the Cleanup Officer found near many banks. There is an officer in Luna
  • Withdraw CUB points using the scales beside the CUB vendor to transfer between your own characters or sell to other players

Kudos are no longer used but do still appear on [wallet. Putrid is found in the Trammel Despise dungeon and can be spent at the dungeon entrance.

Vendor Search

The Vendor Search can be accessed from any safe spot; this means a house you are an owner, co-owner or friend of or an inn. It can also be accessed at [runaway. To open vendor search, left click yourself once to open the context menu and choose “Vendor Search”. Then type in the name or part of a name of the item are you are interested in.

Items can be purchased directly from the search window at a 10% convenience fee to the buyer by pressing the $ button next to it. If you see an item you want for 10,000 gold and decide to buy it instantly, you will be charged 11,000. This is convenience for the buyer only and the seller will not receive the extra fees nor be charged any extra.

For those who wish to save some money, you can also teleport directly to the vendor by pressing the ! button. These buyers will pay the listed price only.

To aid tamers in finding a new pet, you can also search for shrunken pets and view their stats. Simply search for “Leashed” to view all pets, or search for the type of pet you want such as “Nightmare”. Once the results appear, you can click the picture of the pet to view the “Lore & Knowledge” page. This will display even if you don’t have any skill in Animal Lore!

Repair Bench

The repair bench is available as a veteran reward to place in your own home. There are also public repair benches available at the rune library in Luna and the community rune library south of Luna.

The benches can be stocked with repair deeds. Simply click “Add Charges” and target your backpack or the container with the deeds in. You may need to target one deed first if the bench is empty to register the level of the deed before you can add them in bulk.

One huge change for IUO is that if you’re not a crafter or don’t have the time to stock the bench you can also repair all your equipped items for gold. The cost is 50 gold per durability and you will get a discount based on your Honesty virtue: 5% for Seeker, 10% for Follower and 20% for Knight.

You won’t lose maximum durability when repairing with gold so your gear will last forever provided you keep on top of repairs. If repairing with deeds there is still a chance to lose maximum durability. Repairing with gold even keeps brittle items from losing durability!

Global Chat

You can chat to everyone on the server using the [c command.

To open the chat, simply type [c without any message.

To send a message, type [c The message you want to share.

Mastery Usage for Skill Gain

While not specific to Insane UO, it's still worth mentioning for players that are returning to Ultima Online and might not know about The official write up about masteries can be found at: https://uo.com/wiki/ultima-online-wiki/skills/skill-masteries/.

Skill Masteries can be quite powerful and beneficial to use. A mastery offers special abilities that can be used by a character with at least 90 skill.

To use a mastery, the character must have a Book of Masteries and the skill primer for the skill.

• Most mastery primers can be earned from doing Champ Spawns.
• Bard masteries are only available through quests which also award the Book of Masteries.
• The Book of Masteries can also be purchased from the new player stone at the Original Rune Library [rl.

Some masteries can be repeated with little to no cooldown and when using these masteries, you can gain skill.

Animal Taming

Once you are at 90 real skill in animal taming, you can use the "Combat Training" master repeatedly to get to your skill cap in animal taming, even 120. This will also raise your animal lore.

• Tame any creature
• With the creature near, cast "Combat Training" mastery
• Target the creature
• Repeat

Provocation

Use the mastery over and over. You can get to 115 provocation!

Discordance

Use the mastery over and over. You can get to 115 discordance!
